EU To Suspend Russian Gas Indefinitely If Russia Sends Troops To Ukraine
The German foreign minister said on Friday that the European Union would impose sanctions on Russia if it sends troops to Ukraine, including the indefinite suspension of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Europe relies heavily on Russia for energy. There are three main natural gas pipelines from Russia to Western Europe, one is through Ukraine, the other is through Poland, and the other is through the Baltic Sea. When there is war in Ukraine, the local gas pipeline will be cut off. If Nord Stream 2 gas is not used, Western Europe is expected to rely more on expensive U.S. LNG. At that time, two situations can be imagined. First, international natural gas prices will rise sharply, and there will be opportunities to push up oil prices at the same time. Second, Europe's trade deficit and economy will deteriorate further.
