Axie Infinity Announces Theft Of Over $600 Million Worth Of Virtual Currency
The operator of the popular cryptocurrency game "Axie Infinity" announced on Tuesday (29th) that more than $600 million worth of virtual currency had been stolen, making it the second-largest cryptocurrency hack in history. The Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times reported on the 29th that Sky Mavis, the publisher of Axie Infinity, said that on March 23, part of the game architecture Ronin Network was infiltrated by hackers, and 173,600 ETH and 25.5 million USDC disappeared. Analyst Elliptic said it was the second-largest virtual currency hack in history, with virtual currencies worth $540 million at the time of the hack, which has grown to $615 million today. Sky Mavis shared a link showing the stolen funds were still in the hacked crypto wallet, working with Chainalysis to recover the stolen virtual currency. After the news came out, ethereum was not affected too much. At 5 p.m. ET, ethereum fell only 0.65% to $3,395.20.
