Tesla’s Shanghai plant extended shutdown due to city closure

Tesla's Shanghai plant has been suspended since March 28 and was originally scheduled to resume work on April 1. However, according to foreign media sources, Tesla’s Shanghai plant has extended the shutdown period for at least one day and cannot resume work as planned on April 1. Reuters and Bloomberg reported that the Shanghai government suddenly announced on the evening of the 27th that it will be closed in two stages with the Huangpu River as the boundary, first in Pudong and then in Puxi, and all enterprises will implement closed production or work from home. In the middle of the night on the 30th, the Shanghai official announced the implementation of "global static management", requiring the public to "do not move and stay at home" to achieve a comprehensive reset. Tesla Shanghai plant is located in Lingang Industrial Zone, Pudong New Area. It is the first batch of areas to be closed and controlled. The city will be closed from 5:00 a.m. on the 28th, and large-scale nucleic acid screening will be carried out at the same time. It was originally scheduled to be released at 5:00 a.m. on April 1st. According to Reuters, Tesla's Shanghai plant has issued an internal notice to cancel production plans for April 1 and 2. China is Tesla's second largest market, so the Shanghai plant is very important to Tesla, and it is also an export base for important overseas markets such as Germany and Japan. According to data from the China Passenger Car Market Information Association (CPCA), Tesla's Shanghai plant sold 56,515 wholesale vehicles in February, of which 33,315 were for export.
